In the midst of teaching middle schoolers, my friend Pam, a twice-retired special education teacher, found herself in a hilarious situation that had me laughing uncontrollably. Pam had returned to teaching, driven by her love for the students, and she shared this amusing incident after her Thanksgiving visit with us in NC.
Pam, having misplaced her glasses, resorted to Dollar Tree readers until she had a chance to purchase her new prescription glasses. The twist came when, after Christmas break in January, she discovered one of her students confidently strolling into class wearingβ¦ you guessed it, Pam’s missing glasses!
Rather than confronting the student right away, Pam, wise to his occasional fits, opted for a stealthy switcheroo when he went to sharpen his pencil. She deftly exchanged her Dollar Tree specs for her own, and we both erupted into laughter at the comical turn of events.
Curious if the student noticed, I asked Pam. She shared that he did give her a puzzled look for a moment when he returned to his desk, but he simply put on “his” glasses and carried on with the day. Pam later called the student’s mom, who revealed that he had been sporting those glasses for quite a while.
Pam and I both wear glasses. Peepers are great reading glasses and come in many colors. Amazon sells them and I have several pairs. I told Pam that she needs to invest in several pairs also.
It’s these endearing and humorous stories that reaffirm the joy of teaching and the delightful moments that make the journey worthwhile.
Teaching, after all, is not just about lessons and textbooks; it’s about creating memories that leave everyone with a smile.
